Murder On Flight 502 was one of the first made-for-TV movies I ever saw. I remember seeing it as a small child one weekend afternoon, and I remember being sure I’d be entertained because of the movie’s colorful all-star case (including Robert Stack, Farrah Fawcett, Sonny Bono, and Fernando Lamas.) Also, the movie promised it would be a murder mystery, so I remember gleefully warming up my deducing skills. However, I was sorely let down by the movie’s mystery – if you can even call it a mystery. That’s because I correctly guessed who among the airplane’s passengers was the guilty party when that person was first seen in the movie’s first few minutes. It went downhill from there.

I find it mildly amusing that the cover mentions that the cast is menaced by “a murderer who has murdered”. As opposed to…?
Yes, I realize that’s not the end of the sentence, and there are some further qualifiers to the phrase. Still, the redundant wording strikes me as awkward enough that one might think the copywriters could have done to invest in a thesaurus.

Now I’m all in suspense about who’s going to be the next PM of Australia. Yesterday I ran into a young Aussie who looked like a fashion model and described Julia Gillard as “a proper ozzie sheila” due to her plain-spokenness, and said that the other guy didn’t think a woman could serve as a judge if she was having a period. Somebody asked her if she thought Australia was a sexist country, and she demurred from having an opinion on the grounds that she hadn’t been outside of there long enough to form a basis of comparison.
