Baseline Killer (2006) serves as my introduction to incompetent ultra-schlock director Ulli Lommel. I had not realized how blissful my ignorance was until I allowed it to be snatched from me.

About a year or so ago, I found a movie on OnDemand claiming to be based on H.P. Lovecraft’s “The Tomb.” I figured it’d be bad, but I also figured that I could be pretty forgiving of a movie I wasn’t paying for, so I cued it up.
When I saw the name “Ulli Lommel” in the credits, I thought, “Waaaait a minute…I’ve heard some really bad things about this guy. Ah, well, it’s still free. Time to see if he’s as bad as they all say.”
I started fast-forwarding about 10-15 minutes in, realized nothing was going to change (it wasn’t going to stop being repetitive or stop massively sucking) and decided to do some housework instead. I never did finish it, and I have no desire to.
I admit to some curiousity about the Boogeyman movies, and will probably see at least the first one someday, but that’s about it for Mr. Lommel as far as I’m concerned. I think with him I’ve met my match.

The worst part is that, in a year or two, I’ll misremember just how bad this was, and venture another one (maybe even The Tomb). Humans are funny that way.

Even “The Boogeyman”, which some consider to be a classic, is considered by a number of others to be a fairly unoriginal and repugnant film.

Try his version of “The Black Dahlia” if you feel like taking another dip into Lommel’s murky waters. One of the biggest cans of stupid I’ve had the [mis]pleasure of encountering.

Weirdly, this film seems to share its box art with another movie, 2008′s Babysitter Wanted.

Zombie Nation was a Lommel flick and it was dreadfully bad. For awhile at least I think he survived on German tax incentives. I’m not sure how he finds financing now.

From the production values, I’d say he looks beneath the couch cushions for spare change.
