First, good to hear from you. Second, I didn’t mean to disparage Mr. Leinster; I just noted he was a fairly obscure figure. That in no way implies he wasn’t a talented writer, nor inventor.

Second, once I get back to writing more than two pieces a year, and posting them an hour before deadline, yours will be the first door I pound upon, believe me.

Ken, Murray Leinster is well-remembered among science fiction fans and scholars. His “A Logic Named Joe” was a remarkably prescient description of PCs and the Internet, for starters. I have several of his books.

More interesting to you movie mavens, he invented the “front projection” special effect, which may be the reason his name was used in this particular case.

Maybe you should go back to letting me proofread ….

Blake–had a chance in high school to rent it from the local Blockbuster but never got around to it. I haven’t seen it since. Someday I’ll grab up the DVD though (it’s out on DVD, right?)

I remember that review, Ken. That’s probably kept me from trying real hard to find it.

Speaking in things in theaters–this weekend our midnight movie offering is Dr. Strangelove. Having finally seen this a few months ago, I’m thinking I need to check it out live and on the big screen…

Crater Lake Monster is fairly fun (assuming you don’t go in expecting it to knock your socks off), better certainly than the bulk of today’s SyFy ‘Original’ Movies. My thoughts on it can be found here:

Rev – Yeah, it made me want to see “The Crater Lake Monster”, which I still need to get my hands on. I ended paying about 10 bucks for my copy (bought it at Toys R Us).

Blake–I actually have that! It was kind of fun; it actually make me want to see The Loch Ness Horror. God, I was so young and innocent then…

And that little snippet of footage was easily worth whatever I paid for that VHS (not much, although it was before DVD so I’m sure it wasn’t too cheap).

Lyz–Does that mean the less chivalrous option is true? You little minx, you.

“I also want to say that Caroline Munro is just painfully, heartachingly gorgeous.”

There was a trailer collection of “dinosaur” movies called “Fantastic Dinosaurs of the Movies” or something to that effect. I liked how they started the tape off with random footage of Caroline Munro in a bikini posing for photographers during shooting for “The Golden Voyage of Sinbad.”

Do you suppose that’s what Lyz looks like when she doffs her specs and shakes out her hair? (Although she probably doesn’t wear a get-up like that under her lab coat…OR DOES SHE!?!)

As the alternative is concluding that she doesn't even wear that under her lab coat, the chivalrous option is to assume that she does.
