So Night of the Creeps, check. Phantasm 2, check. When do we get The Keep?

Until we do, maybe this will hold you:

For me, part one was basically a near-exact recreation of what every kid might imagine their war with the supernatural would be like. All that sneaking around, bike riding, running down the road at night, making plans -- I recognize all that stuff from the many times my friends and I plotted to track down the devil worshipers in the woods where we lived, or went out hunting for Sasquatches. There's something in that experience that makes Phantasm work for me on a level I can't explain or make anyone comprehend if they weren't themselves goofy spook-obsessed kids in a small town.

To be honest, it's probably been nearly twenty years since I've seen part 2. I remember so little about it, other than loving it when I saw it back in high school.

So Night of the Creeps, check. Phantasm 2, check. When do we get The Keep?

Happy dance, happy dance, happy dance.
Sorry, 2 of my more favorite unreleased films coming to DVD! I don't know if Phantasm 2 invalidated the grieving process as much as just turned it about 923 degrees from normal. Dead grandpa walking around? Check. Digging up the dead and making them into ugly Jawas? Check. That creepy uncle who says "boy" while violating the space-time continuum and spewing yellow fluid? Double check. Flying balls of doom? Yes, but OK that has nothing to do with grieving. I found P2 much creepier than P1- I'm so getting myself cremated just in case.

My main problem with Phantasm 2 was that it invalidated the idea that the original movie was just a metaphor for the grieving process.
Still a fantastic movie, though.

That's true. The addition of the gadgeteer kids in the third installment was a hideous misstep, and overall the length of time between installments meant that in Phantasm: Oblivion, instead of "BOYYY," Angus Scrimm should have been growling, "middle-aged MAAAAN..."

I have to say, though, it is hard to watch the first two Phantasm movies without feeling frustrated that the series didn't really get close to what it was meant to have been.
