Did the duke not fight a giant octopus in ride the wild wind? I have visions of him being beaten by huge rubber arms, Or perhaps it was a squid? I dunno. Either way the man must have done something to annoy the giant cephalopods of the world, maybe he just ate one too many seafood dinners.

Reap the Wild Wind — he battles a giant squid. I know SCIENTISTS will say they are different than octopus, but what has science ever done for us? Buncha mumbo jumbo egghead BS if you ask me.

My dad (bless his departed soul) had this movie on VHS for years and never told me that Wayne fought a giant octopus. Had I known, I would’ve watched this ritually. Darn!

As the daughter of a major John Wayne fan, and a John Wayne fan myself, I am ashamed to admit that I never knew he battled a giant octopus or a giant squid. I imagine fighting giant cephalopods is more dangerous than spanking Maureen O’Hara, but probably not by much.

And Jet Pilot — don’t forget that one. Really one of his weirdest films.

“Ahhh, YUMA!!” Damn, I haven’t seen Jet Pilot in far too long.
