What a way to welcome a new year.
Killjoy (2000). The title is disturbingly accurate.

« Talk about a happy New Year!
Nightmare, perhaps. Original, perhaps not. »

I know clowns are usually inherently creepy and all, but that? Buck teeth + Longstocking/afro = gooftacular “monster.”
Man, if you can’t even make a clown scary, you’re either severely lacking in talent or just not tryin’.
Since Band and Co. are involved, I’m guessing it’s a little from Column A, a little from Column B.

Every once in a while, I begin to lament the mysterious curse laid upon me that prevents me from ever turning down a chance to watch a Joe D’Amato or Jesus Franco movie. Then I remember that you somehow got cursed with Charles Band, and the situation looks a great deal brighter.

I think clowns overstayed their creepy welcome, and now they’re just ho-hum nightmare fuel. I think it’s time to up the terror quotient on something really difficult. Like we have maniac clowns, maniac cops, maniac janitors, maniac woodsmen — someone needs to make a maniac fireman movie. Firemen are far too beloved in society, what with their bravery and life saving and all. I mean, come on! The ax is right there! He can kill a gay guy and say, “He was a real flamer!” It practically writes itself.
And no, Dennis Leary doesn’t count.

… (shudders) You are evil, evil man. Now I have a mental image of Pennywise and Pipi going at it, and it will NEVER go away! (whimpers and curls into a ball muttering “can’t sleep, the clowns will eat me”)
