White woman. Jungle. Yawn.

The latest at Cold Fusion Video Reviews is Jungle Goddess (1948), a George Reeves/Ralph Byrd B-movie which answers the question, “Just how boring can a white-goddess-in-Africa movie be?”  Otherwise, only notable for the misplaced orangutan (!) stock footage in the African locale.

So, what you, Keith, and El Santo name as the best jungle movies of the 30s and 40s? Anything outside of Tarzan, Jungle Jim, and Bomba the Jungle Boy? :)

I’ll have to defer to the other two gentlemen, as I’ve yet to make a comprehensive survey.

What about the Sabu version of the Jungle Book? Anyone? I’ve considered downloading that one.

Best jungle movie of the 30’s and 40’s? Of the ones I’ve seen, it’s The Most Dangerous Game, no question. (Although it’s worth pointing out that I have yet to get my hands on Kongo, the 1932 talkie remake of the beautifully twisted semi-silent West of Zanzibar.)

This is one of the moments when I should kick myself for not buying the $9.99 VHS of Most Dangerous Game at Suncoast when I had the chance many years ago.

DVD Pacific (my current retailer of choice) has the Criterion DVD release for $17.00.
